Workshop: Use AI to help you plan engagement with stakeholders

Great engagement factors in who you are talking to and what they care about, and draws on your communication strengths. This workshop helps you bring all of these elements together in a plan that works for your stakeholders, the project, and you.

Overview

You will think about: your audience and what they care about, your own communication strengths and blind spots, and what feedback you will need to inform your project. You will build a community engagement plan using AI to help you.

We’ll be using AI to brainstorm ideas and then to structure your plan, but you’ll be deciding what actions to take.

Benefits

  • Get clear on who you are engaging and what matters to them
  • Understand your communication strengths and blind spots when engaging with stakeholders
  • Use AI to help you bridge the gap between your natural style, what your audience wants, and what the project requires
  • Match your level of engagement to what your project needs, using the IAP2 spectrum
  • Leave with a well-rounded engagement plan that you want to implement.

Skills taught

Participation will give you the opportunity to:

  • Build a profile of your audience and what they care about, with AI as a thinking partner
  • Reflect honestly on your own communication strengths and blind spots
  • Use the IAP2 spectrum to choose an engagement level that fits your situation
  • Identify practical ways to bridge the gap between your style, your audience and your project
  • Draft an engagement plan and review it through the eyes of the people you will be listening to.

Designed for

People in business, community organisations and councils who need their engagement processes to generate useful feedback, informing decisions that will stand up to scrutiny.

What to expect

This workshop mixes short presentations, individual reflection, and discussion in pairs and as a group. You will work on your own project, or a relevant scenario if you would rather, and leave with a draft engagement plan.

About me

I help organisations turn inconsistent, hard-to-track AI use into a shared way of working. Through training and a ready-to-use prompt library, your team develops a clear sense of where AI genuinely helps – and where to steer clear of it.

It’s essential to maintain ownership of your work, and one of the ways I do that is to interweave  manual steps between each use of AI.

I also write strategies, policies and plans for councils and not-for-profit organisations across New Zealand. I’ve been doing this work since 2014 via Writing for Councils, and before that I worked at Nelson City Council in resource management and strategic planning roles.
