Use AI Without the Guesswork

If you work on complex projects with tight deadlines, it’s hard to carve out time to figure out how AI can make a meaningful contribution to your work.

This service is for council staff and consultants who would like help to identify their best opportunities to make use of AI, and to develop ready-to-use prompts and/or tools.

How AI integration can help you

Many councils are now happy for staff to make use of AI, particularly within the organisation’s version of Microsoft Copilot.

They are also happy for consultants to use AI where it will add value to the project without undermining data security.

But without a clear plan, AI can seem like a distraction rather than a valuable assistant.

The risk of wasting time trying things out that don’t give you useful results can be off-putting. But with the right support, you can quickly identify where it makes sense to use AI to add value to your work, and to speed up some of your tasks.

What you’ll get

Following our initial call I’ll provide you with a proposal for you to consider.

If you decide to proceed, I’ll develop AI prompts (and tools, if desired) to use at specific points in your project. These prompts will make AI immediately useful to you.

How it works

Step 1: Free call to discuss your project

We’ll meet to talk about your upcoming project and how this service works. By the end of this call you can decide if you wish to proceed to Step 2, and we’ll clarify what information it will be helpful to bring to the discovery session to make the most of it.

Step 2: Discovery session to uncover specific opportunities for AI use

In this paid session ($120 + GST) we’ll discuss the boring, repetitive and/or difficult elements of your work that you’d like AI to help you with, and the options available to you.

We’ll also clarify the scope of the project. Most people choose to get underway with a small standalone segment of a project, with the ability to continue to work together on an as-needed basis.

Step 3: Proposal for your consideration

You’ll receive a proposal outlining the agreed scope and the project fee.

Step 4: Design AI prompts

I’ll develop draft prompts and tools, as outlined in the proposal, based on my experience and the ongoing resources and guidance I have available to me through my two AI mentors (Ed Gandia and Cathy Topping).

Step 5: Test and refine the prompts

You test the prompts and tools, and advise of any changes you require.

Step 6: Improvements to the prompts and tools

I’ll make your changes.

About me

I worked in policy and planning roles at Nelson City Council for nearly 20 years, so I understand the types of documents you need to produce. For the past 11 years I’ve been providing writing and editing services for councils around New Zealand.

Since 2024 I’ve been learning how to apply AI specifically to local government work. I’ve developed tools and frameworks that help council staff use AI safely and effectively.

FAQ: Can this work in Copilot?

We will develop prompts for use in any of the following AI platforms: Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or Claude.

Where it is appropriate for your organisation or client, we can also discuss the option of developing more advanced tools using ChatGPT or Claude.
