Writing council documents |
Giving you time to think strategically |
|
Time is a precious resource, which can be in short supply in a busy council where you are likely to be juggling multiple projects.
By getting help with the documentation side of your work you will have more time to apply the specialist technical skills for which you were employed. You will also have more time for thinking in order to provide high quality advice to your council. |
Streamlined process |
|
My 19 years of experience as a local government employee, and four years of independently delivering writing and editing services for councils, mean I understand the types of documents you require, and am likely to have worked on similar documents before.
I bring all of my background knowledge to your project, combined with my love of writing and editing. I will proactively seek out the required information by talking with staff and researching the relevant council policies and rules. You don't have to worry that I will waste the time of busy staff by requesting multiple, unnecessary meetings. My preferred way of working is to consult with you to understand what you require, to develop a draft document in my quiet home office, identify the questions I need to ask, and schedule targeted interviews with staff (either by phone or in person). |

Support throughout the review process |
|
I also understand the multiple review processes every significant document requires — including by your manager, senior leadership team and elected representatives, as well as Audit NZ in some cases. I aim to make this process as simple as possible for my clients by writing comprehensive, easy to read documents. I won't leave you in the lurch with an incomplete document — I am committed to being available to provide additional research and writing support in response to any issues raised during these review processes.
