Writing Long Term Plan consultation documents
  • LTP consultation documents - feedback from the auditor general --
The Auditor General's report discusses what to include in consultation documents (and what to leave out), how to manage supporting documents, and some innovative consultation methods being used by councils.
  • Good ideas for LTP consultation documents — Auckland's Long Term Plan Consultation Document (2015) includes some features which are likely to be of interest to other councils.

Highlights from 2015 Long Term Plan consultation documents
  • Spotlight on the South — Southland and Invercargill councils share the issue of ageing infrastructure and the need for more information in order to postpone replacement, where possible. The Around the Mountains Cycle Trail is a new opportunity in Southland.

  • Queenstown's plans for attracting business visitors, reducing congestion and spreading costs
Queenstown Lakes District Council is proposing to:
    -        Develop a convention centre
    -        Reduce travel into Queenstown Town Centre by private car
    -        Spread the cost of water and wastewater supplies across ratepayers.

  • Irrigation is the key to growth in the Timaru and Waitaki districts
The Timaru and Waitaki districts are both benefiting from irrigation and dairy conversions. Both also face issues related to roads, with the costs of maintaining roads through large geographical areas being met by a relatively small number of ratepayers.

  • Canterbury Tales — The LTP consultation documents of the three districts neighbouring Christchurch - Waimakariri, Selwyn and Ashburton - provide an interesting snapshot of what’s going on in mid-Canterbury, and are the information sources for the notes that follow.
