Editing local government documents

When to consider editing assistance

Editing assistance is a good option when:
  • members of your management team are having to spend too much time on editing
  • someone has been working on a large document for a long time and they are too close to the content to be able to edit or proofread it
  • staff skills are better utilised in other ways
  • a document has been developed by multiple contributors, and there is a need for a consistent style.

Commissioning editing assistance

Clearly explaining the type of editing you are looking for will ensure you are happy with the results.

If you are at in the early stages of working on your document, you may appreciate a heavy duty review of the structure and content, and be happy to receive suggestions on additional content to include (e.g. from other information sources and national guidance I am aware of).

Alternatively, if you have already arrived at a clear understanding of the message they need to convey, you will only want improvements to style and structure but not to the content.

My experience

I have experience editing all of the following types of local government documents:
  • business cases
  • asset management plans
  • conference papers
  • submissions to central government
  • infrastructure strategies
  • regional land transport plans
  • reserve management plans
  • financial strategies
  • annual plans
  • regional policy statements
  • resource management plans
  • state of the environment reports
  • council reports
  • sustainability strategies.
